ILOILO City – The Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC) Region 6 is urging farmers to avail themselves of the agency’s insurance.
PCIC regional manager Charlito Brilleta explained that the agency offers insurance for seven lines: rice crop, corn crop, livestock, fisheries, non-crop agricultural asset, high-value commercial crop, and term insurance package.
The rice and crop insurance are “extended to farmers against losses in rice and corn crops due to natural calamities as well as plant pests and diseases,” while the livestock insurance is offered against loss of carabao, cattle, horse, swine, goat, sheep, poultry and game fowls due to accidental death or diseases.
The fisheries insurance, on the other hand, protects fisherfolk against losses in unharvested crops due to natural calamities and over events.
Brilleta also stressed that the agency does not only cover insurance on agricultural and other crops. It also extends help to farmers to protect their lives against calamities, accidents and illnesses through the term insurance package.
“In fact, there are many incidents that we have experienced paying for the farmers who availed themselves of the insurance. Most of these incidents are motorcycle-related accidents,” Brilleta said./PN
