ILOILO City – An agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 died in an antidrug operation of the police in Sitio Solong, Barangay San Juan, Sibalom, Antique yesterday afternoon.
The agent, Macario Grasparil of Barangay District 1, Sibalom, was the subject of the operation. He tried to resist arrest around 4:15 p.m.
Grasparil sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover police officer for P500.
PDEA assistant regional director Levi Ortiz confirmed that Grasparil was an active agent of the agency.
According to Inspector Clark Philip Dinco, officer-in-charge of the Sibalom police station, Grasparil drew his gun, a .357 revolver, after realizing he was being entrapped.
This forced the operatives of the Sibalom police and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Central Antique to shoot the suspect, said Dinco.
Eleven more sachets of shabu were recovered from Grasparil’s sling bag which also contained a .9mm pistol.
According to Dinco, Grasparil was in the Sibalom police’s list of suspected drug personalities.
“Inunahan siya ng mga operatiba natin,” said Dinco.
PDEA-6 director Gil Pabilona could not be reached for comment as of this writing.
Grasparil’s unmasking as an drug pusher came just four days after self-confessed pusher tagged two police officers to illegal drug trafficking.
The 35-year-old Joemar Dionero of Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo, Iloilo City claimed Police Officer 1 Napoleon Forbes and Police Officer 2 Gary Cordero ordered him to sell drugs.
Dionero made the allegation Friday last week. He said he feared getting summarily killed.
Dionero is currently in the custody of the Iloilo City Police Office.
Forbes is an intelligence officer for the Arevalo police station while Cordero is under the Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) Regional Special Training Unit.
This “serious accusation” could “ruin the PNP (Philippine National Police) organization,” according to Senior Superintendent Christopher Tambungan, PRO-6 deputy director for operations.
He ordered Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, ICPO director, to investigate Forbes and Cordero./PN
