ILOILO City – Through an antidrug quiz bee, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 (PFEA-6) tested high school students’ level of awareness on illegal drugs and the government’s campaign to eradicate the menace.
A recent competition at a mall in Mandurriao district gathered 30 high school students as participants.
According to PDEA-6 director Wardley Getalla, “the quiz bee was not just a competition of intellect. It was also an opportunity for these men and women of tender age to impart to others their knowledge on illegal drugs.”
The quiz bee, he added, was a creative venue through which PDEA-6 could tell the public about the ill-effects of illegal drugs.
Denver Beltran of Mandurriao National High School won first place and took home a cash prize of P10,000.
Joemar Ruego of Iloilo City National High School placed second. He won P8,000.
On the other hand, John Lloyd Brillantes of Fort San Pedro National High School bagged P6,000 cash prize for his third place finish.
All other contestants were given a consolation prize of P500 each.
Last year, Getalla said, the quiz bee gathered 16 contestants so this year’s participation showed more youngsters were getting aware of the government’s antidrug campaign.
“I reminded again our students to stay away from illegal drugs and help us in the campaign,” said Getalla./PN
