ILOILO City – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 (PDEA-6) are stepping up its campaign against illegal drugs by curbing drug smuggling through the ports and high seas.

PDEA-6’s Airport Interdiction Unit and Aviation Security Group led the random paneling inspection at the Iloilo Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo on Oct. 27.

The operation yielded negative recovery, according to PDEA-6 spokesperson Shey Tanaleon.

Later that day, PDEA K9 and seaport interdiction unit along with the personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard also conducted security and sweeping operations at the port of Dumangas, Iloilo.

There was no contraband seized during the operation, Tanaleon said.

“We want to avert the possible infiltration of dangerous drugs in Dumangas Port and in the airport. We inspect cargoes, essential goods, passenger items, and vehicles onboard the vessels bound for and departing Dumangas port. The PDEA-6 together with other government forces is intensifying the campaign against illegal drugs,” Tanaleon stressed.

Tanaleon earlier cited intelligence report that some drug pushers are transporting illegal drugs through local ports.

Meanwhile, personnel of PDEA-6 during the one-day operation distributed advocacy materials and comics to the commuting public.

“We are reminding the people of the ill-effects of illegal drugs through our comic books,” Tanaleon added./PN
