PDEA trains eyes on foreigners

ILOILO City — Ilonggas, beware. Members of international drug syndicates may pose as your foreigner friend or lover, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6.

They might use you as drug couriers, Regional Director Paul Ledesma said.

Ledesma said they have received reports about foreigners planning to use Ilonggas to smuggle illegal drugs into Iloilo and other parts of Western Visayas.

Foreigners mostly from the United States will seek Ilongga lovers whom they may use as drug couriers, he said, citing intelligence reports.

He advised young Ilonggas to know their foreign acquaintances well.

Ledesma stressed that Ilongga students must take extra care.

“We advise our students who have a foreigner friend or lover to be careful,” he said. “Know as much about his personal background as possible to avoid becoming a victim of international drug syndicates.”

According to the anti-narcotics agency, their operatives are watching out for an African man who reportedly has an Ilongga lover.

PDEA is also coordinating with other government agencies, especially the Bureau of Immigration, in monitoring foreigners coming in and out of the country.

On the other hand, Senior Supt. Samuel Nacion, provincial police director of Aklan, has ordered his men to mobilize intelligence operatives to check on foreigners in Boracay./PN
