MANILA – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) top official warned the public against unscrupulous individuals posing as PDEA agents.
Director General Aaron Aquino issued the warning after the arrest of an alleged PDEA operative and a female companion in a shootout in Parañaque City.
“It comes as no surprise that there are people who misrepresent themselves as PDEA agents or as members of other law enforcement units to perform their illegal activities,” Aquino said in a statement.
“Our agents have undergone rigorous training for months, imbibing in them the core values of the PDEA organization,” he said. “We will not tolerate unscrupulous people who pretend to be our agents and tarnish the agency’s integrity.”
Jhay-R Repana, 31, of Parañaque City and Rosemimi Facal, 30, of Taguig City were allegedly involved in a shooting on Dr. A. Santos Avenue, Gate 2 of Loyola Memorial Park, Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City on Feb. 24.
Onboard a Mitsubishi Lancer (plate number XHU-835), the pair engaged in a shootout with another vehicle. Repana’s left leg was wounded as a result, investigators said, citing a witness.
Parañaque City police station officers arrested the pair after finding their vehicle parked near the Santa Rosa Hospital in Laguna.
Police Regional Office 4A scene of the crime operatives found in the car a .38 revolver with ammunition, a plastic pack of suspected shabu, an improvised tooter, and a lighter.
Repana identified himself as a PDEA operative and showed his identification card to the police. The PDEA has not issued a categorical denial.
Repana and Facal face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, usurpation of authority, and alarm and scandal.
On Feb. 4, security cameras in Barangay Ususan, Taguig City have captured persons wearing PDEA uniforms while tagging along alleged drug personalities aboard two vehicles.
The same group eluded arrest after engaging the authorities in a hot pursuit in the same village two weeks later.
“The PDEA is continuously intensifying its internal cleansing program as part of its commitment to weed out erring agents and personnel involved in the illegal drug trade and other anomalous activities,” Aquino said. (PNA)
