BACOLOD CITY – The Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) is now monitoring Negros Occidental’s fault lines following the magnitude 6.5 quake in Samar.
PDMPD head Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian said they continue to check if there are movements in the East Negros Fault System as of Wednesday.
“We are also closely monitoring the Negros Trench, which is more ‘dangerous’ since the movements are under the sea,” said Caelian.
He noted that no injuries or structural damage were recorded in the province following the Tuesday’s quake.
“We have a response and rescue team at the Capitol, the employees are already trained on what to do during untoward incidents like earthquake,” he said.
Caelian underscored the importance of regularly conducting earthquake and other emergency drills in both public offices and private establishments.
“It is important that people are aware of the basic ‘duck, cover and hold’ during an earthquake,” he stressed. (With a report from PNA/PN)
