ILOILO City – House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez endorsed Iloilo 3rd District’s Cong. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. for governor and Cong. Jerry Treñas for Iloilo City mayor.
Alvarez, secretary-general of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), made this public endorsement during the oath-taking of barangay captains of Iloilo province, Iloilo City and Guimaras yesterday morning at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district.
“Kilala ko si Congressman Toto doon sa House of Representatives. Napakasipag po niya kaya kung s’ya man ang pipiliin at susuportahan ninyo sa probisnya, ako I have full trust and confidence kay Congressman Toto. Kaya niyang alagaan ‘yung interes ng probinsya,” said Alvarez.
The House Speaker administered the oath-taking of 1,088 barangay captains from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th districts of Iloilo province and 145 barangay captains of Iloilo City.
Of the 1,088 barangay captains who took their oath, the biggest delegation came from Iloilo’s 1st District with 382; 209 came from the 2nd District; 375 from the 3rd District; 35 from the 4th District; and 87 from the 5th District.

The House Speaker also reiterated his trust and confidence in Treñas.
“Malaki ang tiwala ko at ng partido ng PDP-Laban in the leadership of Treñas. Kung ibalik n’yo s’ya as mayor sa city of Iloilo, hindi niya papayagan na lumaganap ang illegal drugs,” said Alvarez.
