ROXAS City – People’s support is needed to counter any terror attack, according to the Philippine Army.
Acting Division Public Affairs Officer head Lt. Col. Arnel Cabugon said any terroristic activity by lawless elements can be prevented if the public will be vigilant in their communities and support the authorities.
Cabugon, during the meeting of Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers, said the local government units also have a vital role to lead the counter terrorism drive.
“The lawless elements have their propaganda activities but let those propaganda not intimidate us,” Cabugon said.
He said rebels like the New People’s Army (NPA) are always banking on the social problems as their propaganda.
He noted that communists create social problems like extortion activities and threat to the public, and even do harassments resulting to economic sabotage if their target individuals do not heed their extortion activities.
He also stressed that only the members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police are allowed to have firearms. Hence, communists such as the NPA and the like should be unarmed.
Cabugon also assured the public that they are closely monitoring the activities of the rebels to secure the people and the country.
He also said the Philippine Army is always a ready partner of the different government agencies and local government units to bring peace and development in the countryside. (PIA)
