MANILA – Jaymar Perez of Columbian Dyip and Moala Tautuaa of San Miguel Beermen will banner the Filipino 3×3 team in the 2020 FIBA 3X3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Bengaluru, India from March 18-22.
Aside from the two who were part of Philippines 3×3 squad that snatched the gold medal during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Alvin Pasaol and Joshua Munzon were also selected. The team’s reserves are former PBA player Karl Dehesa and Leonard Santillan.
Meanwhile, serving as the head trainer of the team are former FIBA 3X3 World Tour Most Valuable Player Stefan Stojačić and renowned Serbian conditioning coach Darko Krsman.
The team lineup – revealed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas on Tuesday – were picked by the selection committee and chaired by Executive Director Sonny Barrios with Eric Altamirano, Jong Uichico, Patrick Aquino, and Ronnie Magsanoc.
“It is an honor for the Philippines to be with the top 20 countries vying for seats at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We ask our countrymen to rally behind our Team in its quest to be part of the Olympiad,” said SBP president Al Panlilio.
Philippines will be slotted in Pool C with basketball giants Slovenia, France, Qatar and Dominican Republic. The qualifying tournament has only three available tickets for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics./PN
