Alan Purisima, former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief

MANILA – Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima was accused of perjury for allegedly failing to disclose his wife’s property and several firearms in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs).

In the case the Office of the Ombudsman filed at the Sandiganbayan, Purisima was charged with eight counts of perjury. Bail was set at P6,000 for each count, or P48,000 in total.

Purisima failed to file the correct SALNs from 2006 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2014, the charge sheet showed.

The charges were an offshoot of an earlier Ombudsman order to forfeit Purisima’s P29 million worth of alleged ill-gotten wealth.

For the 2006 and 2007 SALNs, Purisima omitted the property of his wife Maria Ramona Lydia covered by Certificate of Land Ownership CA-25916, the Ombudsman said.

In 2008 the number of the wife’s undeclared properties increased to three: properties covered by CLOA VOS-28452 and a deed of donation dated May 12, 2008. In 2009, Purisima did not include his property covered by CLOA VOS-28012.

In the 2011 SALN, Purisima omitted his firearms HPRFL BMSTR 223 and pistol STI 40, on top of the four aforementioned real properties. In 2012 and 2013, Purisima did not list a CZ 9MM SPO1 Shadow firearm and a HPRFL UDMC 556 firearm, said the Ombudsman.

Purisima was currently being tried by Sandiganbayan Sixth Division for graft for allegedly awarding a courier service deal to Werfast Documentary Agency, Inc. for the delivery of firearms permits despite the contractor’s failure to comply with government regulations.

He was also facing charges for graft and usurpation of authority along with former president Benigno Aquino III at the Fourth Division in connection with the bloody January 2015 encounter in Mamasapano, Maguindanao./PN
