BACOLOD City – Work-related disputes or a personal grudge are being considered by the police as possible motives behind the ambush of Police Staff Sergeant Miguel Perez of Negros Occidental Police Office.
Major Charles Gever, Bacolod City Police Office Station 4 commander, said the investigation on the incident will be guided by these possible motives.
On Sunday morning, Perez was aboard his Toyota Wiggo on his way home when he was waylaid in Barangay Estefania in this city.
Gever disclosed that Perez did not receive any threats to his life prior to the shooting.
He said Perez was armed with a service firearm during the ambush, but he was not able to return fire against the assailants as they were well-hidden in the tall grass.
Recovered from the crime scene several were empty shells of a 5.56-caliber assault rifle. Investigators also counted 20 bullet holes from Perez’s vehicle.
According to Gever, Perez got out of his vehicle and ran on foot to his friend’s house approximately 150 meters away from the crime scene. Perez was already recuperating at a hospital in this city after sustaining a lone gunshot wound on the left shoulder./PN
