BY MARY JOY CAVAÑAS

ILOILO City – The city’s Public Employment Services Office (PESO) vowed to initiate more programs to further expand its service and provide more job opportunities to Ilonggos.

PESO-Iloilo City head Gabriel Umadhay said through strengthening PESO programs, Ilonggos will be protected from illegal recruiters, exploitation and labor malpractices.

The city PESO was recently recognized as the country’s Best PESO for Highly Urbanized Cities.

Umadhay said the award serves as an inspiration which fuels their commitment of providing every Ilonggo a decent job.

“This award is for every Ilonggo who dreams of a better life for their family. Everyone in the office had worked hard for this vision,” he said.

PESO-Iloilo City has brought employment opportunities to the barangays and networked with industries all across platforms to solicit for jobs that fit the Ilonggos’ working skills.

“All these are our collective efforts to stay true to our promise of ‘PESO propelling your skills to the right industry,’” Umadhay added.

PESO-Iloilo City also partnered with big companies for free skills training.

It even visited every school to share its Labor Market Information to inspire students to take courses that are needed in the industry.

Meanwhile, among the various job-generating programs being offered in the city are the Jobstart Program, Special Program for the Employment of Students, Government Internship Program, and other employment opportunities like the Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program for out-of-school youth and other marginalized earners./PN
