Peso seen to weaken as monetary policy eases

MANILA – The peso is expected to weaken towards the end of the year as looser monetary policy and cooling inflation allows more money to circulate in the system, an analyst said Tuesday.

The peso could settle at the P54 to P55 level to the dollar level, but the weakness is “not necessarily concerning,” said Standard Chartered economist Chidu Narayanan.

Markets will be watching whether or not the US and China can move closer to a trade deal in the run up to the G20 Summit in June, he told ANC’s “Market Edge.” (ABS-CBN News)
