MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels cruised to its fifth straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference after a 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 sweep of Chef’s Classics Lady Red Spikers at the San Juan Arena.


Stephanie Mercado and Jonah Sabete tallied 11 points each. Jovielyn Prado chipped in nine markers and 14 excellent digs.

The Angels cemented its hold on second spot with 6-2 slate.


“May mga struggles noong umpisa. Going to this game na ito medyo gumaganda na ang chemistry ng team,” said Angels head coach Arnold Laniog. “At the same time lumalalim na ‘yung relationship nig team inside and outside the court.”


Jinggay Bangad scored seven points for the Lady Red Spikers, which suffered its 11th consecutive defeat in as many matches.


Just like the Angels, the Philippine Air Force Lady Jet Spikers also notched its fifth consecutive victory. It took down BanKo Perlas Lady Spikers in straight sets, 26-24, 25-8, 25-21.


Joy Cases finished with 15 points, Aklanon Dell Palomata added 14 markers while Mary Ann Pantino had double-double 13 points and 12 digs as the Lady Jet Spikers improved to 5-5.


After barely escaping in the opening set, the Lady Jet Spikers took control of the second set with an 8-1 start before sustaining its momentum in the third for a straight set victory./PN
