Petro Gazz survives Army in Premier Volleyball League

ILOILO City – Petro Gazz Angels averted disaster to escape with a 25-15, 20-25, 14-25, 25-13, 15-7 victory over the PacificTown Army Lady Troopers in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference last night at the University of San Agustin Gym here.


Jovielyn Prado top-scored with 14 points on 12 attacks and two service aces while Cherry Nunag and Jonah Sabete added 13 and 11 markers, respectively.

The Angels improved to a 9-2 win-loss slate.


Despite an impressive showing in the first set, the Angels suddenly found themselves in deep trouble with the Lady Troopers scoring commanding victories in the second and third sets.


The Angels, however, regained its form in the fourth set with a strong start, forcing a fifth set which it handily dominated behind the trio of Sabete, Nunag and Prado.


It was the second consecutive defeat by the Lady Troopers; it dropped to a 6-6 win-loss slate.


In the second game, defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers continued its unbeaten via a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 straight set win over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.


Alyssa Valdez, Jessica Galanza and Michelle Gumabao were on point on offense as the Cool Smashers improved to 12-0 win-loss slate.

The Flying Titans saw its winning run snapped to slid down to 5-7./PN
