MANILA – PetroGazz Angels leaned on its experience in the fifth set to pull off a 25-22, 25-15, 19-25, 20-25, 15-3 win over Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the Premier V-League Season 3 Open Conference at the San Juan Arena.
Jonah Sabete top-scored with 15 points, including 14 attacks on Wednesday night while Cherry Nunag chipped in 14 markers.
The Angels tallied its third straight win to improve to 4-2 win-loss slate.
Jovelyn Prado and Cai Baloaloa finished with 11 each while Jeanette Panaga wreaked havoc at the net with six kill blocks for 10 markers.
After handily winning the first two sets, the Reinforced Conference titlist Angels failed to close out the Ateneo Lady Eagles-laden Flying Titans in the third and fourth frame, sending the match to a fifth and deciding set.
PetroGazz, however, raced to a comfortable 8-0 lead in the fifth set to dictate the pace.
The skidding Flying Titans crumbled; it only managed to score three points in the decider.
“Malaking bagay ang naging composure namin sa fifth set,” said PetroGazz coach Arnold Laniog. “Mahirap din kalaban
kasi malalaki rin talaga and they have legitimate percentage spiker na si [Kat] Tolentino.”
Tolentino had 24 points including 21 attacks while Madeleine Madayag contributed 11 markers as the newcomer Flying Titans continued its slide and now with 2-4 win-loss card./PN
