MANILA – PetroGazz Angels extended its winning run in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference to four games after a 25-19, 25-12, 25-15 sweep over BaliPure Water Defenders on Wednesday at San Juan Arena.
Facing a cellar-dwelling team, the Angels pounced on the error-plagued Water Defenders to build their momentum heading to their end of first round match against PacificTown Army on Saturday.
Wilma Salas hammered all of her 12 points off attacks, while Janisa Johnson fired 12 points off 10 spikes and two kill blocks with 11 digs for the Angels, which hiked its record to 4-0.
Jeanette Panaga scored 11 markers while Jonah Sabete got eight points off the bench for the Angels, which has yet to drop a set in the tournament and is one win away from sweeping the first round of elimination.
“The more na nananalo, the more na rin hindi dapat magiging complacent kasi ‘yung mga kalaban lalong mag-peprepare ‘yan lalo sa second round,” Angels head coach Arnold Laniog said.
No Water Defenders player finished in double figures with Alexandra Vajdova of Slovenia and Montenegrin Danijela Dzakovic scoring eight and seven, respectively, as they dropped to 0-3.
In the second game, BanKo Perlas Lady Spikers got back on track in thrilling fashion after escaping Motolite in straight-sets, 26-24, 32-30, 26-24. The Lady Spikers evened their win-loss card with a 2-2, while Motolite are still winless with a 0-3 slate./PN
