MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers cruised to its second straight win in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix after a 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 sweep over Generika-Ayala Lifesavers at the San Juan Arena.
Stephanie Niemer top-scored with 24 points on 19 attacks, two blocks and three service aces on Thursday night.
Kath Bell chipped in 21 markers off 18 attacks, two aces and a block for the defending champions.
The Blaze Spikers easily pounded the Lifesavers in the opening set before getting into trouble in the second frame when it saw its 23-19 lead turned into 23-all. But a shot by Bell and an error by Generika gave Petron the set.
The Blaze Spikers made a quick adjustment in the third canto. It jumped to a double-digit advantage before allowing its reserve players to finish off the Lifesavers in straight sets.
“Naniniwala ako na may ilalabas pa ‘yung dalawang import because experienced players na sila,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Ceseal delos Santos. “They know how to handle ‘yung mga crucial games and mga ganoong sitwasyon.”
Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain topped the Lifesavers with 12 points while Ilongga Fiola Ceballos added seven.
Import Kseniya Kocyvit struggled with just seven markers for Generika.
Meanwhile, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers continued to play with only one import, but it didn’t matter as it made short work of Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19, to earn its second straight win.
Import Becky Perry and Victorinara Galang scored 14 points each to lead the way for the Cargo Movers that is still missing the services of Lindsay Stalzer.
Stalzer is still committed to an Indonesian team./PN
