MANILA – For the third straight conference, Petron Blaze Spikers and F2 Logistics Cargo Movers will face each other in a best-of-three championship series in the Philippine Superliga.
Blaze Spikers and Cargo Movers arranged the titular showdown after putting away their opponents in the Invitational Cup semifinals Saturday night at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.
Petron banked on its loaded firepower to put away Smart Prepaid-Army Giga Hitters in straight sets 25-12, 25-15, 25-17 for its fifth consecutive PSL finals appearance.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Cherry Rondina led Blaze Spikers with 9 points each while Frances Xinia Molina and Mike Reyes chipped in 8 and 7 points, respectively.
“Talagang nag-focus kami sa training [dahil] very unpredictable iyong kalaban,” said Petron head coach Ceseal delos Santos.
Cargo Movers, meanwhile, moved on to its sixth straight PSL finals stint after dethroning last year’s champion Cignal HD Spikers in straight sets 25-22, 25-15, 25-19.
F2 Logistics used late runs in end sets to finish off HD Spikers – going for a 3-0 run to end the first set and onward to a 6-0 rampage to cap the third frame and the match.
Ara Galang led F2 Logistics with 12 points while Mary Joy Baron chipped in 9 markers.
In the Invitational Cup finals Cargo Movers hopes to avenge its loss to Petron in the Grand Prix finals earlier this year./PN
