MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers tightened its hold on the top spot of the 2018 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference with a 25-9, 25-12, 25-6 win over Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors at the San Juan Arena.
Mika Reyes finished with a game-high 11 points, including five aces on Tuesday night while veteran Mary Jean Balse-Pabayo added 10 markers.
With the win, the Blaze Spikers remained on top with 6-0 win-loss slate.
The defending champions were on point since the start of the match. It built a quick double-digit advantage on the erratic Lady Realtors before thwarting the latter’s late runs.
The Blaze Spikers had a dominant performance. It registered twice as much the Lady Realtors’ attacks (37-15) and blocks (5-0) while capitalizing on their opponent’s poor reception with 12 aces.
“Talagang gusto namin maging consistent sa mga ginagawa namin,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos. “Siguro nga hindi maganda nilaro ng Sta. Lucia. Even then, kailangan naka-focus kami sa ginagawa namin sa loob ng court.”
In the other match, Foton Tornadoes got back on the winning track. It dominated Cocolife Asset Managers, 25-23, 26-28, 25-21, 25-19, to remain at second place with 5-1 card.
Carmina Aganon re-asserted her dominance to finish with 18 points, while Caryl Sandoval also had the same output.
With the victory, the Tornadoes bounced back from a tough loss to F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
“I think our loss to F2 Logistics made us better as a team,” said Tornadoes head coach Aaron Velez. “Despite the loss, the team still radiated positive energy and I did not look at it (loss) as a setback.”/PN
