MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo secured a 2-0 victory over the Philippine National Youth Team in the 2024-25 Philippines Football League on Sunday afternoon at the University of the Philippines Football Field.

Lucas del Rosario and Marwin Angeles converted a goal each in the second half as the defending champions Kaya-Iloilo remained on top 6-1-0 win-draw-loss record for 19 points.

After a scoreless first half, del Rosario capitalized on a long ball from defender Simone Rota, evading Philippine Youth’s goalkeeper Michael Antilo Jr. for a simple tap-in goal in the 51st minute.

Following multiple misses from the Philippine National Youth Team, the Iloilo City-based booters put on the finishing touches as Angeles converted against two defenders in the 83rd minute.

“I think this is a big team performance. We knew they would possess the ball a lot, and we were disciplined defensively,” Del Rosario said in a post-game interview.

“At halftime, we pretty much stuck with our game plan. We tried to test them with long balls from behind, and that’s how we were able to get the first goal,” he added.

Philippine National Youth Team, on the other hand, dropped to eighth place in the standings with seven points, built on two victories, one draw, and four defeats./PN
