MANILA – Kaya Iloilo aims to score a repeat over Global Cebu as the two teams square off once again the 2018 Philippines Football League this afternoon at the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz, Iloilo City.
This will be the second meeting between the Visayan squads this week after facing each other on Wednesday at Carmona, Cavite where Kaya Iloilo came up with a 4-0 win.
Despite the lopsided win, Kaya Iloilo mentor Noel Marcaida said they are still wary of Global Cebu as the latter have beaten them before in one of their two encounters this season.
“We just need to keep the intensity that we showed in the previous match,” Marcaida told Panay News. “I keep on reminding our players that this is one of the teams that have beaten us this season.”
“Also Global ‘yan eh, you still expect it’s going to be a tough game. Marami rin silang mga new signing,” he added. “Regardless of our opponent’s standings, ganun pa din ang mindset namin. Whoever we play, mentally ready kaming lahat.”
Kaya Iloilo is currently at second place in the standings with 39 points on 12 wins, six draws and three losses, while Global Cebu is at last place with five points on one win, two draw and 15 losses.
“Our objective is to finish the league strong and hold on to that second spot,” Marcaida said. “The morale of the players is very positive. The intensity is really high in training so I expect the players to have a better performance again.”/PN
