PFL: Stallion-Laguna dominates Mendiola 1991

MANILA – Stallion-Laguna Football Club went on a goal spree to defeat Mendiola 1991 Football Club, 4-0, in the 2022 Philippines Football League over the weekend at the City of Imus Grandstand in Cavite.

Finn McDaniel converted two goals, while Kou Ichi Belgira and Juan Galeana contributed a conversion each. Stallion-Laguna remained at fourth place with 12 points behind four wins and three losses.

The 22-year-old midfielder drew first blood for the Stallion-Laguna with his connection at the ninth minute. McDaniel quickly completed his brace three minutes later for a 2-0 advantage.

Mendiola 1991 had opportunities to cut the deficit but was unable to penetrate the defense but Stallion-Laguna widened their advantage to 3-0 with a putback from Belgira in the 25th minute.

Stallion-Laguna took the fight away from Mendiola 1991 just before the halftime break with Galeana converting from a miss at the 42nd minute. Laguna was not able to score from there.

With the defeat, Mendiola 1991 remained at second to the last place in the standings with three points behind one win in eight matches.

Meanwhile, United City Football Club continued its climb to the top after scoring a 1-0 victory over Maharlika Manila Football Club at the PFF National Training Center in Cavite.

The defending champions broke the deadlock in the 40th minute as Ricardo Sendra intercepted the in midfield before passing it towards Filipino-Japanese Hikaru Minegishi for a fine finish.

The result allows Frank Muescan-mentored United City FC to maintain their push for a fifth consecutive PFL title as they are currently in third place with 16 points behind five wins and one draw.

Maharlika Manila, on the other hand, remained at seventh and last place in the standings with zero points after losing all of their eight matches so far despite the team revamp they did recently./PN
