PH auto sales hit 40,306 units in March

OVER 40,000 vehicles were added to Philippine streets in March to mark a 2.9% increase from the sales in the previous month, data released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) on Monday, April 14, showed.

There were 40,306 units sold in March, up from the 39,164 units sold in February, and 7.8% higher than the 37,474 units sold in March 2024.

Commercial vehicles accounted for the bulk of the sales with 79.04% or 31,857 units, while the remaining 8,449 or 20.96% were passenger cars. Electric vehicles accounted for 5.73%, with hybrid electric vehicles comprising 85%.

Sales of Asian utility vehicles (AUVs) stood at 7,057 units; light commercial vehicles at 23,754 units; light-duty trucks and buses at 626 units; medium-duty trucks and buses at 320 units; and heavy-duty trucks and buses at 100 units.

Year-to-date sales stood at 117,074 units, reflecting a 6.8% growth from the 109,606 units sold in the first quarter of 2024.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. remained the biggest market player with a 47.50% share, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 20.01%, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 5.57%, Suzuki Philippines Inc. with 4.66%, and Ford Group Philippines with 4.47%.

Philippine automotive manufacturers earlier said they are looking to sell 500,000 units in 2025, on the back of the newly rolled out models and the introduction of more models later in the year. (GMA Integrated News)
