THE Philippines continued to see more vehicles on its roads for the month of July amid new product launches and improved product offerings during the month, data released by local manufacturers yesterday, August 8, showed.

A joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMI) showed that total new motor vehicle sales for the month stood at 39,331 units.

This is 0.6% higher than the 39,088 units sold in June, and 6.1% higher than the 37,086 units sold in July 2023.

“New product launches, improved product offerings, good sales momentum, as well as supply availability helped neutralize the impact of Tropical Cyclone Carina (international name: Gaemi), especially towards the latter part of July,” CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez said in an accompanying statement.

Commercial vehicles continued to account for bulk or 73% of total sales with 194,812 units, while passenger car sales came in with 70,798 units or 27%.

Sales of Asian utility vehicles (AUVs) stood at 6,626 units, light commercial vehicles at 20,849 units, light-duty trucks and buses at 575 units, medium-duty trucks and buses at 299, and heavy-duty trucks and buses at 65 units.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. remained the biggest player in the market as it captured 46.21%, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 19.05%, Ford Group Philippines with 6.33%, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 5.96%, and Suzuki Philippines Inc. with 4.33%.

This brought the year-to-date sales to 265,610 units, reflecting a 10.9% increase from 239,501 units in the comparable period of 2023.

CAMPI earlier said it expects sales to grow by 9% to 468,000 units this year from the 429,807 units sold in 2023, and this might increase to 500,000 as the group hosts the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) this year. (GMA Integrated News)
