ILOILO City – Three business tycoons were recently honored in the City of Love for their assistance during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The City Council enacted “Resolutions of Conferment of Honorary Recognition to Federico R. Lopez, Enrique K. Razon Jr., and Henry Sy Jr. in View of His Benevolent Intention to Contribute to the General Welfare of His Fellow Countrymen, His Generosity, Altruism And Goodness and Declaring them as ‘Adopted Sons’ of Iloilo City” in honor of their invaluable and remarkable contributions through genuine act of humanitarianism and charity.

Lopez is the chairman and chief executive officer of First Gen and First Philippine Holdings Corp., Energy Development Corp., and Lopez Holdings Corp. He is also the director of ABS-CBN Corp. and vice chairman of Rockwell Land Corp.

The Lopez family – who traced their roots in Iloilo – and the Lopez Group of Companies gave P5.5 million worth of medical supplies to the Uswag Molecular Laboratory in Molo.

Lopez also donated 5,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to help the city in achieving herd immunity.

Meanwhile, Razon also donated 5,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to help the city ramp up its vaccination program.

He is the chairman and chief executive officer of International Container Terminal Services, Inc., the Philippine port-handling giant offering container-port terminal services.

Sy, on the other hand, has been a director of SM Prime Holdings since 1994 and was named chairman of the Board of Directors in 2014.

Sy’s SM will build the P217-million Uswag Low-Rise Residential Buildings at Uswag Subdivision, Barangay San Isidro in Jaro. The twin four-storey structure with 120 units at 30 square meters per unit will benefit qualified regular employees of City Hall.

The project will greatly help the constituents of this city since housing costs continue to rise, making it more difficult for some Ilonggos to become homeowners, especially during this pandemic.

Apart from housing, their family business contributes to the growth of the economy and the creation of jobs for Ilonggos./PN
