MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC moved even closer to a third straight crown. It defeated Stallion Laguna FC in the 2019 Philippines Football League at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.

Bienvenido Marañon and Robert Lopez Mendy fired a goal each in the second half on Sunday as the Busmen nailed their second victory in three matches against Stallion Laguna.

After a scoreless opening half, the Negros Occidental-based football club drew first blood at the 52nd minute. Marañon scored one past Stallion Laguna’s Nelson Gasic.

The lead was quickly doubled a minute later with Lopez Mendy finding the target. Stallion Laguna tried its best to catch up but could not penetrate on the tight Ceres Negros defense.

Despite moving closer to trophy with its 49 points (16 wins and a draw), Ceres-Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic still does not want to entertain the thoughts of coronation.

“It is still too early to talk about the title,” Vidakovic said. “We beat our direct opponent for the title (Kaya Futbol Club Iloilo) but we need to continue. We need three more wins.”

With the defeat, Stallion Laguna remained at third spot with 29 points, on eight wins, five draws and five losses./PN
