PH Football League: Ceres-Negros, Kaya-Iloilo seek to beat rivals today

MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC and Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo hope to keep their hold on 1-2 spot as they face separate foes in the 2019 Philippines Football League today at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa, Batangas.

The Busmen will face a dangerous foe in Stallion-Laguna FC at 7 p.m. while the Ilonggos will tangle with Green Archers United FC in the first game at 4 p.m.

Despite holding the top spot with 28 points (nine wins and one draw), Ceres-Negros could not take lightly the Stallion-Laguna that is at third spot in the standings with 21 points (six wins, three draws and two losses).

The first encounter between the two teams on May 25 ended in a 2-2 draw with Ceres-Negros committing costly own-goal error only to be saved by a late hit by Bienvenido Marañon to split the points.

Kaya-Iloilo, on the other hand, would like to keep in step with the defending champions Busmen with its second running 25 points (eight wins, one draw and two losses) as it faces Green Archers United, 18 points (five wins, three draws and four losses).

Just like Ceres-Negros, Kaya-Iloilo cannot afford to relax with the much-improved Green Archers United. Their second meeting this season ended in a scoreless draw on July 6.

Kaya-Iloilo handily won its first encounter with the Green Archers United on May 25, 4-0, with Ghanian star Jordan Mintah tallying hat trick./PN
