MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo averted an early surprise by Mendiola 1991 FC for a 6-3 victory in the 2019 Philippines Football League on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Jordan Mintah completed a hat trick, Eric Giganto added two goals, while Ilonggo Shirmar Felongco contributed one for the Ilonggos, which widened its hold of the top spot with 12 points on 4-0-0 win-loss-draw slate.
Mendiola pulled off an early stunner in the match with Aaron Altiche converting at the third minute. Kaya-Iloilo had a quick response to tie the score at 1-1 with Mintah firing at the 11th minute.
Felongco surged the Ilonggos ahead with a conversion at the 22nd minute before Giganto got one to go for Kaya-Iloilo at the onset of the second half to establish a 3-1 advantage.
Giganto will not be denied of his second goal as he was once again left by the defense at the 50th mark before Mendiola pulled one back minutes later via a hit by Jim Ashley Flores.
Mintah then completed his hat-trick with hits in the 85th and the 89th minutes for Kaya-Iloilo with Mendiola’s third goal from Alen Angeles sandwiched between the Mintah goals in the 88th minute.
In the night cap, Green Archers United Globe FC and Stallion-Laguna FC settled for a scoreless draw. Stallion-Laguna climbs to second spot with eight points, while GAU went up to third spot with seven points./PN
