PH football league targets Oct 24 opening

MANILA – Pending the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of the Emerging Infectious Diseases, the Philippines Football League targets to kick-off its 2020 season on Oct. 24.

PFL commissioner Coco Torre said matches will be held at the Philippine Football Federation National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite while all PFL clubs and match officials will be staying at Seda Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The league competition format will feature a single round-robin competition followed by a Finals Series. Each team will play five matches each with the top four teams advancing to the Finals Series.

The duel between Azkals Development Team and Mendiola Football Club ushers in the season at 4:30 p.m. followed by the clash between Stallion Laguna Football Club and Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo at 8:30 p.m.

Newcomers Maharlika Manila Football Club and United City Football Club square off the next day at 5 p.m.

The league is finalizing its protocols for approval by the Games and Amusements Board and the Department of Health. The PFL is also closing in on a broadcast deal that will allow fans to watch the matches live on different platforms./PN
