PH officials to head to China this week to secure more infra deals

MANILA – Philippine officials are scheduled to head to Beijing this week in a bid to score more deals China, particularly for the infrastructure program, the Department of Finance (DOF) said Monday.

“The Philippine Delegation to Beijing led by executive secretary Salvador Medialdea will meet with top officials of China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on Tuesday (March 19) to firm up possible new agreements on infrastructure cooperation between the two countries,” the DOF said in an emailed statement.

Aside from this, the DOF said the Philippine delegation is also set to meet with Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan.

This comes as the government plans to spend over P8 trillion in its Build, Build, Build program infrastructure projects until 2022, largely funded by government revenues from taxes.

Other members of the local delegation are also scheduled to meet with separately with officials of the Export-Import Bank of China (EximBank), and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the officer in charge of reviewing and implementing Beijing’s foreign aid projects.

“On March 20, a Philippine Economic Briefing (PEB) will be held in Beijing to showcase to potential investors the vast opportunities available to them in the Philippines as it emerges as an economic powerhouse in the region,” said the DOF. (GMA News)
