MANILA – The Philippine women’s football team scored two goals in the dying moments to pull off a 2-1 triumph over Nepal in the 2022 Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers on Saturday at the JAR Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Tahnai Annis drilled the equalizer for the Malditas at the 89th-minute mark before Camille Wilson completed the Philippines’ fightback with her conversion a minute later.
“The new players that were introduced in this game played very well for us. They were instrumental in initiating our first goal in the match,” according to Philippine team head coach Marlon Maro.
The 63rd ranked Malditas conceded an early goal to Nepal, with Bimala Chaudhary scoring on a header past Philippines goalkeeper Inna Palacios’ defense at the ninth minute.
The Malditas had further chances to knot the score but failed to get through Nepal’s defense until Annis turned the game around with a superb strike past Nepalese stopper Anjila Tumbapo Subba at the 89th minute.
Wilson subsequently scored in the opening minute of the stoppage time from a pass by Chandler McDaniel to put the national women’s football team ahead, 2-1
The victory moved the Malditas to the top spot of Group F with three points and, if they defeat Hong Kong on Friday, will secure a slot in the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India./PN
