PH Superliga: Petron dispatches Marinerang Pilipina

MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers kicked off its three-peat bid in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-10 sweep over Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers at the Imus City Sports Complex.

Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led the way with 15 points on 12 attacks and three blocks on Thursday night.

Mika Reyes added 10 markers, on five attacks, three blocks and two service aces.

Negrense Bernadeth Pons also did her share with nine markers while UAAP MVP Cherry Rondina supplied eight coming off the bench.

Rhea Dimaculangan got the Blaze Spikers going with 20 excellent sets, to go along four aces.

The defending champions had a flat start in their conference debut but was able to turned its engine going in time to dismantle the newcomer Lady Skippers in just three sets.

“I’m happy because we won our first game. But this is just the start. We need to step up since we will be facing contenders next week,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Ceseal Delos Santos.

None from the Lady Skipper reached double figures in scoring as Dimdim Pacres and Judith Abil tallied nine points each as the Marinerang Pilipina suffered its third loss in as many matches.

In the second game, Generika-Ayala Lifesavers sustained its momentum with a 22-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-17 victory over the Foton Tornadoes. Angeli Araneta led the way with 21 markers for the Lifesavers./PN
