MANILA – PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters kept Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers winless in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference with a 25-21, 25-20, 18-25, 25-14 drubbing on Tuesday at San Juan Arena.

Gretchel Soltones spearheaded the attack with triple-double 22 points, on 19 attacks, two blocks and a service ace, to go along with 12 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions for the Power Hitters.

Aiko Urdas was also impressive with 15 points while setter Jasmine Nabor did a marvelous job controlling the tempo with 21 excellent sets as the Power Hitters hikes its record to 2-1.

Holding a 2-0 set edge, the Power Hitters struggled to put away the Lady Skippers in the third set as they saw their 8-6 lead to a huge deficit behind the hits of Lady Skippers’ Chiara Permentilla and Judith Abil to stay alive.

The Power Hitters, however, made sure that the match will not be stretch to a deciding set as it opened the fourth frame with a 16-7 advantage behind hits from Soltones and never looked back.

“It seems that they are out of focus. That’s not the game I wanted to see after months of practice and a year of togetherness” rued Power Hitters head coach Roger Gorayeb. “There’s no steam, we’re lacking of intensity.”

Abil had an all-around effort with 11 points laced with 19 digs and 17 excellent receptions while Permentilla delivered 10 points on top of 11 digs off the bench for the Lady Skippers, which suffered its fourth straight loss./PN
