MANILA – The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has given the Philippine Superliga (PSL) the go signal to conduct its beach volleyball tournament under a bubble concept.

According to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, the IATF-EID gave the clearance to the planned PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup, which is tentatively scheduled in November.

Pinapayagan na rin po ang beach volleyball tournament ng Philippine Superliga sa ilalim ng sports bubble concept,” Roque said at the Laging Handa virtual presser on Friday.

The PSL Beach Volley Challenge Cup 2020 will feature 16 teams and is tentatively scheduled on Nov. 27 to 29 in Subic, the venue that hosted the 30th Southeast Asian Games beach volleyball.

Roque, however, clarified that the IATF-EID has not yet allowed the resumption of training and tournaments for PSL’s indoor volleyball league.

Aside from beach volleyball, the IATF-EID also gave the clearance to cockfighting and horseracing.

Licensed cockpits and the conduct of cockfighting activities must follow health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of the virus. In-person audience, online or remote betting, and the live broadcast of cockfights are prohibited.

“[T]he local government units shall have the final decision on whether the operation of licensed cockpits and conduct of cockfighting activities can proceed in their respective localities,” Roque said.

The IATF also allowed off-track horse race betting stations to operate in areas under general community quarantine or lower, subject to health and safety protocols./PN
