MANILA – Filipino taekwondo jins had a winning start in the 30th Southeast Asian Games. They captured three golds and one silver medal in the poomsae event yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Dustin Mella, Raphael Mella and Rodolfo Reyes Jr. retained their gold medals in the poomsae team event while Reyes made it a double gold for himself after ruling the men’s individual recognized poomsae.
Jocel Lyn Ninobla, meanwhile, had a great escape in the women’s individual recognized poomsae after winning over Thailand’s Ornawee Stisahakit by just 0.001 points.
Rinna Babanto and Dustin Mella won a silver in mixed pair.
Margielyn Didal and Christiana Means, meanwhile, had another 1-2 finish in the skateboarding street category event. The two also had a gold-silver in the S.K.A.T.E event last Thursday.
Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon, on the other hand, nabbed the gold medal in men’s doubles event after defeating fellow Filipino Ruben Gonzales and Treat Huey in the finals.
Hanniel Abella, Anna Gabriella Estimada, and Harlene Raguin nabbed the women’s team fencing epee gold after defeating Singapore in the finals. Abella also won a silver in women’s individual epeè.
Hermie Macaranas nabbed a gold medal in canoe singles before teaming up with Ojay Fuentes for canoe men’s doubles silver.
Daniela Dela Pisa, meanwhile, won a rhythmic gymnastics gold in hoops and bronzes in clubs and balls.
In rowing, Joanie Delgado and Melcah Caballero partnered for rowing double gold, while Cris Nievares clinched a gold in singles event.
Junna Tsukii nabbed a gold in women’s kumite, while Norman Montalvo settled for silver in men’s kumite.
Jemyca Aribado, Reymark Begornia, Robert Andrew Garcia and William David delivered a gold medal in the mixed team squash event.
Swimmers Luke Gebbie, Maurice Sacho Ilustre, Jean Pierre Khouzam and Jaron Hatch bagged a silver in 4×100 freestyle relay, while Jeffrey Roda and Alvin Barbero teamed up for billiard snooker silver.
Ronald Oranza, Jhon Camingao, Jan Paul Morales and George Oconer won a silver in cycling road event team trial, while Kenneth Chua, Patrick Nuqui, Frederick Ong and Merwin Tan captured bowling bronze.
Maria Lisa del Rosario, Marian Posadas, Bea Hernandez and Marie Alexis Sy also had bronze in women’s bowling. Also with bronzes were swimmers Chloe Isleta and Remedy Rule, judokas Shin Matsumura, Ryoko Salinas, John Ferrer and Carl Aseneta, Princess Arbilon in pentathlon and John Vasquez in karate./PN
