MANILA – The country will soon expect an “accelerated delivery” of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) starting next month as the global production is forecasted to stabilize by June, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said.

Magkakaroon po tayo ng tinatawag na accelerated deliveries this coming May and June. This coming May, baka magkakaroon po tayo ng seven to eight million. Inaantay lang natin, kasi na-delay po ‘yung sa COVAX,” Galvez told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo on Sunday.

He attributed the delay to the rise of infections in European countries and India.

Galvez, who also chairs the country’s task force against COVID-19, said that by June more or less seven to 10 million doses will reach the country from AstraZeneca, Gamaleya, and Sinovac.

The 18 to 23 million doses of vaccines from AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Novavax purchased by private sectors will reach the country next month.

The Philippines has so far received 1.3 million doses of vaccines from Sinovac and some 525,600 AstraZeneca jabs from COVAX.

It will receive its first delivery of 500,000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine, and an additional 500,000 doses of Sinovac this week./PN
