SUBIC – The Philippine Men’s National Beach Volleyball Team got to a winning start in the 30th Southeast Asian Games men’s beach volleyball yesterday at the Subic Tennis Court.
James Buytrago and Jaron Requinton drew first blood for the Filipinos with a 21-13, 21-16 win over Timor Leste 1’s Robson Xavier and Christian Jean.
Jude Garcia and Edmar Bonono followed this up by romping Silvano Aduauo and Denyanos Belo of Timor Leste 2, 21-7, 21-16.
The tandems of Buytrago and Requinton and Garcia and Bonono will return to action on Sunday afternoon against Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the women’s beach volleyball pairs of Negrense Bernadeth Pons and Cherry Rondina and Angelique Gervacio and Dij Rodriguez were scheduled to begin their campaign last night./PN
