ILOILO City – The Philippine Army has reiterated its neutrality amid political developments, including the recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to Colonel Erwin Rommel Lamzon, assistant division commander for administration of the 3rd Infantry Division, the military adheres strictly to the chain of command, ensuring that all actions align with directives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the national government.

“In the case of the former president, it is unfortunate that such circumstances happened to him. But we always subscribe to the chain of command — from division to brigade, battalion, and even down to companies and platoons. Whatever guidance is given will be cascaded properly,” he said.

Lamzon said the 3rd Infantry Division operates under orders from higher authorities, including Visayas Command, the Philippine Army’s commanding general, the AFP Chief of Staff, the Department of National Defense, and ultimately, the Commander-in-Chief.

Lamzon also addressed concerns over military personnel expressing political views on social media. While no specific incidents were cited, he stressed that the Army enforces strict protocols to prevent partisan behavior.

“We always check these allegations. But it appears that they are non-existent because we follow the chain of command. No one goes outside of it, and that’s what keeps the Philippine Army strong,” he said.

He reaffirmed the military’s constitutional duty to protect the country and serve the Filipino people, regardless of political developments./PN
