MANILA – A Philippine Navy officer already cleared Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go of any involvement in the frigate acquisition project.
The flag officer-in-command Rear Admiral Robert Empedrad also assured that there is no anomaly in the deal.
The Senate is holding an inquiry into the deal today.
“At least the truth will come out in the Senate inquiry,” Empedrad said in an interview during the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Homecoming at Fort Del Pilar in Baguio City.
“The truth is that there is really no anomaly in the frigate procurement. Walang anomalya ang frigate, 100 percent,” he said.
“There is also no intervention on the part of Bong Go,” the Navy officer added. “The (Senate) inquiry will be about that. Tingin ko naman walang problema, walang anomalya.”
Whether or not the Senate inquiry will be an executive session will depend on the senators, Empedrad said. Earlier President Rodrigo Duterte advised Go to not allow an executive session.
“’Pagka iyong question is about weapon system ng frigate, that has to be very confidential. Siyempre para hindi makita ng kalaban,” said Empedrad.
Rep. Rodolfo Alejano of Magdalo party-list had said there is strong evidence Go intervened in the frigate deal./PN
