Other teams that joined the women small boat, open small boat and mixed standard categories were RCP Sea Dragons, PADS and Cebu Fireblade.

Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, who led the dotting of the dragon ceremony, said the annual dragon boat race was a great opportunity to showcase the sports, tourism, economic, and environmental potentials of the Iloilo River.

“We are happy to host this event again this year,” Mabilog said. “We want to show that the Iloilo River is a good venue for water sports, recreational activities and entertainment, owing to our collective efforts to rehabilitate and develop it.”

The annual event started in 2012 as the Senator Franklin Drilon Cup Dragon Boat Race before DoubleDragon Properties Corp. took over the hosting in 2014. (Adrian Stewart Co/PN)
