MANILA – The Philippine Superliga (PSL) has tentatively scheduled their season start in October pending the decision of Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID).

PSL president, Dr. Ian Laurel, said during the Athletes’ Tribune podcast that the league is already preparing its health and safety protocols for team practices if ever the IATF-EID will let them begin training soon.

“The goal really is to have the PSL back in active competition by October,” Laurel said. “The teams should at least practice for maybe a month and a half or two months before the games start.”

Laurel added they have been in touch with IATF-EID, Department of Health, Philippine Sports Commission, and Games and Amusement Board in their desire to resume the league following the cancellation of Grand Prix due to coronavirus disease 2019.

“Since the pandemic happened, we have always been optimistic and very hopeful na makakabalik tayo,” Laurel said. “It’s gonna be a different league when it comes to the organization, when it comes to how the league will be broadcasted and even the players themselves in training malaki ang pagbabago.”

Ilongga Abigail Maraño of F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, who was also a guest in the podcast, said that she and her fellow players must be well-disciplined in complying with the health protocols.

“For sure, kapag inaprubahan ni IATF ‘yung request ng PSL na makapag-resume ibig sabihin matibay talaga ‘yung mga protocols na binuo and for that being said kailangan kaming mga players sumunod,” Maraño said./PN
