ILOILO City – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Western Visayas registered a 103.24 percent accomplishment of its pre-registration target for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).
PSA targeted 2,007,704 household heads and members from four priority provinces for the pilot pre-registration.
The actual accomplishment was at 2,072,771, according to Marlene Alviar, chief of PSA-6’s statistical operations and coordination division.
“We are happy we overshoot our target pre-registration of over 50,000,” Alviar said.
Capiz posted the highest accomplishment at 108.14 percent equivalent to 301,066 pre-registrants; Iloilo has 107.83 percent equivalent to 703,773 and Antique has 105.50 percent or 234,480 pre-registrants.
Meantime, Negros Occidental registered 833, 452, which is 97.55 percent of the target pre-registrants.
According to Alviar, Step 2 of the registration will start on Feb. 1. It will be held in fixed registration centers identified within their municipality.
Step 2 is the registration process which involves the validation of supporting documents and capturing the registrants’ biometric information, such as fingerprints, iris scans, and front-facing photographs at the registration centers.
PSA-6 is currently preparing for the next pre-registration to be implemented in Aklan and Guimaras and other areas not included in the pilot episode.
“This year, all will now be included but it will be gradual,” Alviar said.
Meanwhile, Director Fred Sollesta of PSA-6 said the target this year is to cover 70 million Filipinos for the national ID.
“The government wants to target that by the end of the term of the President (Rodrigo Duterte) we are close to around 100 million Filipinos that will be registered. What will be left will be those individuals below five years old,” he said.
The PhilSys ID will serve as a valid proof of identity, which would help ease transactions with both government and private sector through easier validation and authentication of identity. (With PNA/PN)
