PHl polo team assured of SEA Games silver

MANILA – Team Philippines has assured itself of at least a silver medal for reaching the finals of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games following its 6-4.5 win over Indonesia at the Iñigo Zobel Polo Facility in Calatagan, Batangas.

Team captain Stefano Tuban, Tomas Bitong, Miguel Lopez, and Gus Aguirre had another solid showing on Thursday to lead the Philippine squad to a second consecutive victory in Division A.

Prior to the win against the Indons, the Philippine team opened its campaign with an 8-8.5 defeat to Brunei on Sunday before bouncing back with an 8.5-5 victory against Malaysia.

The Philippine squad will battle Malaysia in the gold medal match on Sunday. The latter reached the finals following an 8-5.5 victory over Brunei in the other match.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Men’s National Water Polo Team cruised to a rousing 7-4 victory over Thailand in the water polo event on Thursday evening at the NCC Aquatics Center.

Roy Teodoro punched in three goals, while Reynaldo Salonga, Vincent Sicat, Mummar Almara, and Juan Paolo Serrano added a conversion each to give the nationals its first win to go to 1-0-1./PN
