KALIBO, Aklan – A police anti-drug unit caught a cellphone technician in a buy-bust operation here on Sept. 4.
Jacob Solano, a 41-year-old resident of Barangay New Buswang, faces charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
The cellphone technician transacted a police poseur buyer for three transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance for P6,000 at around 11:40 a.m.
Operatives of the Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Kalibo municipal police station conducted the operation inside a business establishment in Barangay Andagao.
The suspect was operating a cellphone repair shop across the Kalibo public market on Roxas Avenue Extension.
Aklan PDEU chief Lieutenant Colonel Frensy Andrade said they closely monitored the suspect for one month before the sting operation.
Recovered also during the body search were three heat-sealed plastic transparent sachets of suspected shabu, a Black Widow .22 loaded with five ammunitions and seven ammunitions inside a sling bag.
Solano denied peddling shabu.
“Nagre-repair ako ng cellphone nang pumasok ang apat na pulis. Nakasabit ang bag ko, nakasarado at may inilagay sila. Wala akong perang ganyan, cellphone technician lamang ako,” the suspect said.
Solano also faces a charge for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
He was detained at the Kalibo police station./PN
