ILOILO City – A head-on collision with a six-wheeler truck cost the life of a pickup driver in Barangay Calaboa, Leganes, Iloilo around 10 a.m. yesterday.

Severe wounds on his head and body caused the death of Cesar Dominguez, 35, of Barangay Pajo, Zarraga, Iloilo.

Dominguez, driver of the smashed Nissan Frontier pickup, was declared dead on arrival at the West Visayas State University Medical Center.

Victim was driving his vehicle on his way to Iloilo City when it accidentally collided with the truck driven by Joel Villanueva, 42, of Barangay Tinucoan, Dingle.

According to Leganes police station investigator, PO2 Leo Barnuevo, the pickup was running fast to overtake a motorcycle, oblivious of a truck coming from the opposite direction. There was no time enough to avoid a collision.

The truck driver said he slammed his brake pedal and maneuvered to avoid the pickup but to no avail.

The victim got stuck on the driver’s seat. It took more than 20 minutes for responding men from the Iloilo City Emergency Response to move him out of the vehicle.

Villanueva is now detained at the Leganes police station lockup cell, awaiting charges for homicide through reckless imprudence./PN
