BACOLOD City – Due to massive pilferage of telephone companies’ (telcos) cable wires, some areas in this city experience internet outage since Wednesday, April 12.
The city government, together with the Bacolod City Police Office, held a meeting after many subscribers complained having no internet connection.
Fiber-optic internet wires in the downtown area were reportedly stolen.
The telcos started replacing the stolen wires but said it would take about three days to fully restore the connection.
City administrator Pacifico Maghari III said the city is intensifying its campaign to stop cable wire pilferage.
“This is a coordinated effort. Bantayan gid ang kinawatay, ang junkshops i-close monitoring man,” said Maghari.
Maghari also asked junkshops to report if illegally obtained cable wires are being sold to them.
Around 400 theft incidents were recorded, with more than one incident per day, added Maghari.
“Kung wala sang mabakal, wala man may mangawat,” the city administrator said./PN
