MANILA – Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Sunday appealed to law enforcers to practice common sense if they arrest Sen. Leila de Lima in connection with her drug case.

“Common sense dapat ang gamitin ng ating mga law enforcer. Number one, kung nasa session kami, huwag kaming istorbohin kasi sila mismo ay gumagawa ng krimen, sila mismo ang makakasuhan niyan  – disturbing a legislative session,” Pimentel said in an interview with radio dzMM

Irespeto nila ang session namin, irespeto nila ang premises namin.

Policemen executing the warrant, he added, must coordinate first with Senate security officers.

The DOJ on Friday filed 3 criminal complaints at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court against de Lima for her alleged involvement in the Bilibid narcotics trade when she was still Justice secretary.

A judge will decide whether to issue a warrant for her arrest once her case is assigned to a court.

Pimentel said he is confident that de Lima will respect any valid warrant against her.

Iyung senador naman na subject ng warrant of arrest, responsible naman pong public official iyan. I’m sure matapos niyang pag-aralan iyan, kung makita niya na on its face ay valid, I’m sure hindi na niya pahihirapan iyung mga law enforcer,” he said. (ABS-CBN News)
