MANILA â Jerie Pingoy came up with clutch conversions as Akari-Adamson Falcons cruised to an 89-79 win over Batangas-EAC Generals in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirantsâ Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
With the score tied at 78-all in the final three minutes of the game, Pogoy waxed hot with consecutive three-point conversions to build a over commanding 87-79 advantage with 55.8 seconds left.
Pingoy, a former UAAP Juniors MVP, finished with 23 points, including a 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc, to go along eight assists, four rebounds, and three steals for the Falcons (6-2).
âThatâs an advantage of Pingoy. Heâs willing to take the big shots,â said Falcons head coach Franz Pumaren on Thursday. âBatangas really played well good thing we were able to execute in the end.â
Jerrick Ahanmisi remained lethal from downtown as he shot 3-of-6 from threes to wind up with 16 markers, while Jerom Lastimosa and Cameroonian slotman Papi Sarr had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Falcons.
The Generals showed some grit to surprise the Falcons as they even took a 63-58 lead midway in the third quarter before the Falcons rampaged back and set up the close finish.
Cedric de Joya led the skidding Generals with 15 points and four rebounds, while Jerome Garcia got 13 markers and two boards as they fell at the latter part of the standings with 1-7 record.
In the second game, Centro Escolar University Scorpions cruised to its third straight victory after pounding the depleted AMA Online Education Titans.
Rodrigue Ebondo top-scored with 27 points for the league-leading Scorpions (6-1)./PN
